Lilieth Hyacinth Nelson, born in Kingston, Jamaica, has been referred to frequently as an “Artistic Scientist”.  This is due to the fact that in addition to an academic and work-related career in Science Education, Business, Administration and Management, she has a long history of training and active involvement in the Creative and Performing Arts in Jamaica, the Caribbean and beyond.

Professor, the Hon. Rex Nettleford, in launching her book in September 2009 said “There are some people whom, if they didn’t exist, we would have had to invent.  Lilieth Nelson is one such person.  This multi-factored Being ranges from science teacher, and academic administrator ……, through lady of the theatre whether as actress in legitimate drama or as contralto and soprano in choral theatre, to the generous-of-spirit, decent and the endearing soul she has been to a great army of friends.  She is now a published poet……. Her artistic orientation drives her to the theatre which, she insists, inspires her to spin words on the printed page, giving thanks to such works of the NDTC as “Dialogue for Three and The Crossing”.  But more than that to the close and enduring source of energy she has found in the University Singers an ensemble which she once led and passed on to Noel Dexter, her soul-brother, long-time colleague, friend and shield and buckler when the occasion demands.”

Miss Nelson is no stranger to the UK, having visited several times on work-related missions. In addition to sharing her artistic talent with audiences in the UK, has graciously offered to donate  20% of all books and CDs purchased at her Reading today, towards RAFFA’S Windrush International Development Scholarship Fund.
