RAFFA Local Renewal, will provide information in the following areas: advice counselling support for “staying in your own home”, benefits, finances, personalization, nursing care, lasting power of attorney and improving carers lives. A cookery expert will be available to disseminate diabetes information and nutritional advice along with a demonstration of healthy food combinations to prevent and control diabetes, appropriate quantities and cooking styles, with the aim of people living healthier and longer.
“There are many older people and carers from the Windrush Generation who have served their families and community well, but are living in isolation” says RAFFA Community Development Officer. “Getting and Staying Active encourages people to socialize in various ways such as playing dominoes. There is also a holistic health benefit to dominoes as it gives a well earned break for Carers and their patients, thus keeping minds active and most importantly, maintaining their functional skills”.
Last year, ‘Thinking Ahead’, acknowledged the rising expectations amongst Older people and their carers and that a culturally sensitive approach to understanding their needs regarding their finances and security must be established, along with the focus of moving towards supported living in their own homes with long term care.
