When The London Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games(LOCOG) awarded, RAFFA, a charity and it’s host COGOP with the Inspire Mark, for Passing the Baton: Inspiring Peaceful, Caring & Enterprising Neighbourhoods, it had implications way beyond the vision of Rudi Page (CEO, RAFFA), as Passing the Baton has become the catalyst that inspired a greater level of collaborative efforts, confidence building and trust in a generation amongst the various interests that encompass the UK Caribbean communities, with Jamaican’s forming the largest grouping. The UK Caribbean Diaspora and Caribbean-based private sectors have yet to demonstrate the same level of collaboration in order to set a common agenda for jobs, growth and increased market share-this is unusual, given the mutual interest in reaching the consumer with their Brands.
Passing the Baton set the agenda by focusing on Youth, Business & Enterprise, Health & Wellbeing, Learning & Skills and Volunteering for Social Action. Its aim is to also set about building relationships with individuals and organisations from across the faith, public, private and voluntary sectors that shared the desire to ‘use the power of the games to inspire change’. A festival approach has effectively brought together disparate activities located in churches, civic centres, colleges, community halls and schools.
