UK Inspire Day, 16 May 2012: Passing the Baton aims to inspire a generation

Jonathan Edwards, Deputy Chair of the London 2012 Nations and Regions group said: “The Inspire programme is an Olympic and Paralympic first and projects like Passing the Baton will go down in the history books as one of the fantastic projects that used the power of the 2012 Games to inspire a generation“.

UK Inspire Day is a celebration of the London 2012 inspire programme, Passing the Baton is one of the exceptional projects to have been awarded the coveted Inspire mark and will be holding and supporting events across the regions throughout the Summer.

Rudi Page, CEO, RAFFA, stated ‘the games are for everyone and we are proud of Passing the Baton and its achievements, so far, particularly relating to the 100 days to go Olympic Film featuring JSTAR Gospel theme and the 100 Days to go Reception, in Brixton organised by ‘Jamaicans Inspired’ with support from Lambeth Enterprise and Veranda Restaurant & Art Gallery’.

Celebrations begin in Birmingham

Passing the Baton will begin the celebrations with a reception at the Community Cohesion Hub, 88 Soho Rd, Handsworth, Birmingham, on Friday 4th May 2012.

RAFFA Wins Coveted Inspire Mark

Passing the Baton Festival has been granted the coveted London 2012 Inspire mark, the badge of the London 2012 Inspire programme which recognises exceptional and innovative projects inspired by the 2012 Games.

Family Domino Charity Fun “Bringing People Together”

Passing the Baton Festival organisers will launch a series of regional “Family Domino Charity Fun”, aimed at ” Bringing People Together” to Inspire Peaceful, Caring & Enterprising Neighbourhoods at Veranda Restaurant & Art Gallery, 30 Lane, Brixton Lambeth SW2, on Wednesday 4th April 2012, 7pm. Family Domino Charity Fun will also take place in Enfield, Brent, Hackney and Harrow.

The inaugural “Family Domino Charity Funday” in association with Lambeth Enterprise will take place in Brixton on Saturday 21st April 2012, featuring mixed doubles, maestro, youth champions and “Learn how to play and improve your game” sessions. Funds will be donated to RAFFA Windrush International Development Scholarship Scheme.

Jamaica defeated England by 250-217, at the first ever IDF World Domino Championships, Oceana Hotel, Kingston, Jamaica, 18th April 1993. The Trophy was presented to the Jamaica Captain, Errol West by the Minister of Foreign Affairs & Foreign Trade, Dr Paul Robertson. Players from London, Birmingham, Sheffield, Bristol and Manchester combined under the auspices of the British Domino League to challenge teams from Bahamas, Canada, Cayman Islands and USA. Between 1993-1998, IDF, organised Conferences, Festivals, Tournaments and Product launches in England, Cuba, Jamaica, Singapore and USA. The organisation featured in numerous radio and television programmes including Radio 4, (with the late Robert Robinson, AdLibs, who visited Cosmopolitan Sports Club, Wandsworth), Channel 4, ITV, Channel One Cable TV and Domino Sports Network on BVTV.
