Peaceful, Caring & Enterprising Neighbourhoods
Passing the Baton, is an innovative approach to community development across public, faith, voluntary and international development sectors.
This initiative has utilized the key aims of 2012 Games as a catalyst for change by leveraging facilities, practitioners, professionals and social entrepreneurs to align themselves with a national celebration of international importance and contribute to the overall theme of inspiring peaceful, caring and enterprising neighbourhoods.
Children & Young People
The activities will bring children, young people and adults together to share talents,cultures, expertise and experiences across generations and encourage active participation in their neighbourhoods. There will be a wide range of information, advice and guidance to support community health and wellbeing.
Sacred Trust
Passing the Baton, reflects the sacred trust, Olympic values by recognizing cultural excellence in performance, skills development and learning: essays, dance, drama, heritage, legal, music, poetry, science, sports and visual arts with pathways and activities that also focus on community health and wellbeing in neighbourhoods and local communities.
Community Partnerships
Passing the Baton has a partnership approach to sporting, social, cultural and recreational activities that are inclusive and aligned with long term public policy goals. The initiative is programme-led to ensure that it’s short-term activities are diverse contribute to mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing of neighbourhoods and local communities.
Volunteering for Social Action
Passing the Baton will inspire a greater level of volunteering amongst young people and adults, due to it’s programme-led approach that enables people of all ages, cultures and abilities to participate. The programme is outward looking and provides an access point for people who normally would not volunteer within their neighbourhood.
Action Research
Passing the Baton will also be utilised as an Action Research project to demonstrate the value to community health & wellbeing by being active in the local neighbourhood by working in partnership with all stakeholders who are inspired and focussed on a national and International celebration such as 2012 Games. The central theme of inspiring peaceful, caring and enterprising neighbourhoods encourages the building of long term relations across communities, cultures and generations.
Social Action Leadership
Social Action Leadership, serves as a catalyst for transforming community services, by mobilizing intellectual capital and collaborative skills of practitioners, professionals and social entrepreneurs. The Network has the capability to mobilise both human and financial resources for the provision of holistic services. It brings together educational, enterprise, health, housing and vocational skills opportunities to promote Local and Global Partnerships for Inspired Social Action.
