InHIP CVD Outreach Project

NHS England’s Innovation for Healthcare Inequalities Programme (InHIP) aims to address local healthcare inequalities experienced by deprived and other under-served populations.

We are working within the Birmingham and Solihull area to identify, address and minimise healthcare inequalities through events and activities to improve service users access to the latest health technologies and medicines. These technologies and medicines are focused on five clinical areas of priority which closely align with the national Core20PLUS5 approach to reducing healthcare inequalities which includes maternity, mental health, respiratory, cancer diagnosis and cardiovascular disease

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention outreach

RAFFA will be focusing our efforts around Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Prevention. Between 2020 and 2021, there were 2,383 excess deaths in the most deprived areas of the West Midland that were related to heart disease and strokes. These deaths could have been avoided if the most deprived areas in the region had the same mortality rate as the least deprived areas.

Our trained Health Ambassadors

NHS has trained some of our RAFFA Ambassadors to become Health Ambassadors, with specific training on how to deliver outreach health screening in and around the Birmingham and Solihull Community.

They have been attending various events across the community offering health screening to Black and ethnic residents based in the Midlands. This is great opportunity for our Ambassadors to positively engage with the community whilst receiving feedback on their GP experiences and the hurdles faced when accessing NHS services.

  • Temperature Monitoring
  • Arterial Fibrillation Checks
  • Information & Advice
