It is widely recognised that the Windrush generation has played an instrumental role in shaping British culture, economy, and identity. Their arrival marked a new era of diversity and multiculturalism in Britain. The contributions of the Windrush generation can be felt in every corner of British society. They worked hard, paid taxes, and created businesses. They helped build the National Health Service and the transport system. They contributed significantly to the arts, literature, and music of the country. Windrush generation represents the best of Britain, and their contributions are a source of pride for the entire nation.

It's Back!!
The BIG Caribbean Lunch was a fantastic celebration of the Windrush generation! With such strong support from local organisations and sponsors like the London Borough of Lambeth, Black Cultural Archives, Grace Foods UK, and NHSBT. RAFFA sponsored the event that not only honoured the contributions of the Windrush generation but also created a sense of community and cultural celebration.
Mark your calendar for Sunday, 22nd June 2025, for Windrush Day 2025 as we are already planning to make it an even more spectacular event next year. It will surely be a wonderful opportunity to further recognise and celebrate the rich heritage and lasting impact of the Windrush generation. The Friends of Windrush Square (FoWS), in partnership with Lambeth Council, invite you to the 3rd annual Big Caribbean Lunch on Sunday, 22 June, in Windrush Square.
The organisers plan to provide lunch for a number of the members of the elder Windrush Generation and their descendants. Join us for a few hours of friendship, Caribbean food, music, fun, and storytelling from 12-7 pm.

The Windrush scandal revealed how the UK Government failed to properly recognize and protect the Windrush generation. Some individuals were wrongly detained, deported, and denied access to essential services. This was a blight on the UK's record on diversity and human rights. The 3rd Windrush National Vigil
Our CEO, Angela Clarke BEM attended the The 3rd Windrush National Vigil occurred on April 6, 2025, in Windrush Square, Brixton, London. The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers, including campaigners, survivors, advocates, members of parliament, and clergy. Additionally, a Windrush Home Office surgery was held at the Black Cultural Archives Centre adjacent to Windrush Square. Notable attendees included Keynote Speaker Seema Malhotra MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Migration and Citizenship, Dr. Bishop Desmond Jaddoo MBE leading the candlelit vigil, Lambeth Mayor Councillor John-Paul Ennis veterans, and members of the public.
Celebrating 75 years of Windrush
Firstly, the Government established a compensation scheme to compensate those affected by the scandal. This is a significant step towards acknowledging the harm done and providing some form of redress for the victims. Secondly, the Government has introduced reforms to the immigration system to prevent similar scandals from happening in the future. Finally, the Government has launched a national Windrush Day to celebrate the contributions of the Windrush generation to British society.
Milestones II Windrush Nation
In series two of Milestones -The Windrush Nation, we have expanded the list of contributors to include those with a Caribbean heritage, UK dual heritage, and African heritage. That’s because the journey started in Africa and settlers from Africa came in the “spirit of Windrush” – First the pioneers, then other members of their family.
