Brixton's iconic Ritzy Cinema was abuzz on Wednesday, 25th June, and RAFFA was delighted to be there, not just to catch an early glimpse of Marvel Television's highly anticipated 'Ironheart' on Disney+, but also to mark the exciting launch of a vital new partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT).
The evening truly embodied the spirit of innovation, community, and heroism that 'Ironheart' itself champions. As the first episodes of the series, featuring the brilliant young inventor Riri Williams, made their UK debut on Disney+, our team was privileged to attend a special screening, soaking in the inspiring narrative of a young woman using her intellect to make a powerful difference.
This event, however, was more than just a cinematic experience for RAFFA. Recognising the urgent and ongoing need for diverse blood donors, especially those of Black heritage crucial for treating conditions like sickle cell, RAFFA is proud to join NHSBT's 'Ironheart' campaign. This initiative leverages the show's themes of strength and responsibility to encourage more individuals from Black communities to come forward and donate blood.
Our partnership with NHSBT will focus on raising awareness, breaking down barriers, and encouraging more people to become life-savers. It was particularly moving to hear about the profound impact ethnically matched blood donations have on patient outcomes. Like Riri Williams, who harnesses her ingenuity for the greater good, every blood donor possesses the power to be a real-life hero.
RAFFA is committed to working closely with NHSBT to host future events, share vital information, and mobilise our community networks to support this critical cause. We believe that by working together, we can help bridge the gap in blood supply and ensure that all patients receive the best possible care.
We extend our sincere thanks to Marvel Television and Disney+ for creating 'Ironheart', a series that resonates deeply with messages of empowerment and social responsibility, providing an inspiring backdrop for such a meaningful launch. Keep an eye on our channels for more updates on how you can get involved and become a part of this heroic effort!
